The Beacon, the first of its kind was developed to meet the need for high quality multi-function street post embracing information and protection technology. Twelve Beacons have been manufactured and installed in Birmingham as part of the City Centre CCTV scheme and there is good evidence that crime levels have been reduced where the Beacons have been installed.
These attractive, modern, sculptural tapered posts look good, reduce street clutter, are vandal resistant and are made from recyclable stainless steel.

Reflective surfaces, gently curving sides and rounded corners reduce daytime impact, yet at night the point light cone on the top gently changes colour, utilising fibre technology to signal its prescence.

There are also plans to develop communication for pedestrians with the aid of touch screen interactive technology this could also raise potenial advertising revenue, other sources of potential revenue are the display panels on the sides and the fact that the Beacon can hold a cell phone base station.

Testimony to the development and design of the Beacon was the awarding of Millennium Product status in 1999.
